Judas Priest

Judas Priest es una influyente banda británica de Heavy metal, considerada una de las más grandes e influyentes en el desarrollo de este estilo, fundada inicialmete en el año 1969. Sus integrantes reciben su inspiración musical básicamente de los grandes del Rock psicodélico, Rock Progresivo, Hard Rock y el posterior Heavy metal como lo fueron Black Sabbath, Queen, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple y Led Zeppelin aunque desde sus inicios buscaron un sonido propio que los diferenciara de las bandas de la época, anticipando así el estilo metálico y fuerte que se desligaba del sonido blues, proceso iniciado por Black Sabbath y continuado por ellos y que marcaría la era de la Nueva ola del heavy metal británico a mediados y finales de lo años 70s. Hasta 1990 el sonido de la banda estaba más orientado hacia un Heavy metal, más arraigado al hard rock en sus primero trabajos (como bien se puede ver en albumes estudio como Sad Wings of Destiny, Sin After Sin o Killing Machine/Hell Bent for Leather), pero a partir de su disco Ram it Down y el posterior éxito Painkiller, la banda endureció su sonido haciéndolo más duro, agresivo y acelerado, acercándolo más al género conocido como Speed metal, dejando definitivamente de lado el toque hard rockero de sus primeros trabajos.

Judas Priest es a menudo nombada como la banda que terminó de definir el sonido verdadero del Heavy metal, siendo la primera banda en basar su sonido 100% en el estilo, ya que los llamados precursores (Deep Purple, Queen, Led Zeppelin y Black Sabbath, por nombrar algunos) incluían otros géneros como el blues y el hard rock en las bases de sus composiciones. También se les identifica como pioneros en imponer un tipo de indumentaria característica del Heavy metal. El cuero, las tachas, cadenas y chalecos/chaquetas de cuero y demás accesorios de metal vinculados directamente a su música, dando una imagen ruda, agresiva e incluso machista. Esto se hizo público a través del influyente vocalista, Rob Halford, quien adoptó dicha indumentria como su imagen, cada vez que se presentaba en público en los escenarios, induciendo al resto de la banda (y a las otras bandas del género en su época, quienes luego de un tiempo tambien adoptaron la indumentaria) para que hicieran lo mismo. Judas Priest ha vendido más de 40 millones de álbumes alrededor del mundo durante toda su carrera.
